My interest in jazz came when I started playing the tenor saxophone in highschool 1985. I first listened to artists like Michael Brecker and Jan Garbarek and soon after got inspired by Eddie Harris, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman a.o., but also the "Nordic Sound" mean a lot to me. I also started to write music for small groups. I try to be a creative writer and improviser using elements from pop, rock and funk when playing jazz. I'm constantly working on my own sound and I believe that I have found my personal voice. I try to write melodic music with a strong harmonic structure and a swinging groove. Some of the members in my group I have known and played with for years and I am proud to say I believe they are the best swinging rhythm section in Copenhagen today!" Mads Hansen
