V-Disc Parties

The Army Special Services Division established the V-disc program in 1942 and made a variety of recordings for military service facilities around the world.Many of the records contained jazz artists' excellent performances that were not commercially available.The first 4 tracks are a tribute to "Original Dixieland Jazz Band that made the first jazz recordings in 1917. The group led by cornetist Bobby Hackett included two members of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, trombonist Eddie Edwards and drummer Tony Spargo. The pianist on this session was Frank Signorelli, who joined the ODJB in 1921.The second group is also led by Bobby Hackett. Bobby Hackett introduces the 7 musicians while each plays a few bars of "Oh Baby." The next number is Louis Armstrong's composition "Struttin' With Some Barbecue."
