Live At Sunnie’s Rendezvous

These classic tracks from “Sunnies” Rendezvous”, recorded in February, 1969, belong to some of the most swinging small-combo live performances in the Storyville catalogue. Al Hall was a thoroughly dependable time keeper whose stylistic concept grew out of the walking bass styles of Walter Page and Milt Hinton. Drummer, Cliff Leeman, was the perfect choice for the Sutton-Wilber Quartet, creating a swinging, unobtrusive pulse for the soloists. Bob Wilber is the featured soloist on this disc and he creates a row of authoritative and outstanding solos on every track switching between his clarinet and his curved soprano from title to title. Ralph Sutton, of course is the anchorman on all these performances. Once more showing his ability to make any composition swing!
