Muggsy Spanier And His Dixieland All Stars At Club Hangover, San Francisco 1953-54
The performances heard on this CD showcases Spanier in excellent form with a fresh-ness about most of the solos that makes for first class listening. Spanier is in excellent form throughout. Spanier was a stylist little given to technical display or bravura flourishes, preferring to fashion solos within the middle range of his instrument. On This CD his playing is virile and lively sounding, naturally incorporating some of the stylistic trade-marks that made him so easily re-cognisable to jazz followers throughout the world.- This release is a welcome addition to the output of a dedicated and uncompromising musician.
