These classic performances, live at “Sunnies Rendezvous” in February 1968 feature four great veterans playing in a relaxed but peak form. Sutton shows he is not exclusively a stride pianist and that he can play brilliantly within the swing idiom, but the main star throughout is Brat!, who has the rare ability to build his solos up to a low note, feeling each thoughtful phrase and coming up with fresh melodic variations that uplift these various standards.
