Stan Kenton With The Danish Radio Big Band
Stan Kenton conducts a specially-enlarged edition of the Danish Radio Big Band in a live concert in Copenhagen’s Radio Concert Hall in 1966. This 73-minute CD (14 tunes) is being released here for the first time. The repertoire is a blend of Kenton classics and popular jazz tunes, with compositions and arrangements by Bill Holman, Pete Rugolo, Johnny Richards and Gene Roland. This CD captures an exciting encounter between one of the U.S.’s leading big band composer/conductors and one of Europe’s leading big bands. The legendary Swedish alto saxophonist, Rolf Billberg, is featured soloist with the Danish Radio Big Band. The Danish Radio Big Band lustily match Stan Kenton’s very particular demands regarding sound and precision on this powerful and beautiful live recording. This CD is a must for big band fans in general and, of course, Stan Kenton fans in particular.
