Though essentially a discography, the title of this book is chosen deliberately for it contains far more than the usual discographical information; An extended interview with Baker, reviews, a biography, and many previously unpublished photograhs. However, the main part is of course the discography that takes us through Baker’s career from his first recordings in 1952 until his death in Amsterdam on May 13th, 1988. The evidence of 36 years as a highly original and gifted trumpeter and singer (plus occasionally piano player, and in few cases drummer) is here. Approximately 200 recording sessions, 150 radio and TV broadcasts (from which much material has become available on LP, CD or video), and 250 private tape recordings of concerts. The 360 page book has indexes of musicians, song titles and LP/CD titles. Hardcover with dust jacket, A5, illustrated
