Recorded in the studio in 1999, here are 12 numbers representing a wide variety of genre and styles including popular songs, show tunes, extreme rarities (like My Yiddish Momme') and two Asmussen originals. The three Danish musicians on this CD have comprised Asmussen's regular band since 1992, and are recognized as among Europe's finest. Jacob Fischer, for instance, is one of the world's best jazz guitarists today also according to Asmussen, who adds: "He has an uncanny sense of style and whatever genre of music he plays, he brings to it a wonderful authenticity." On this CD, Svend Asmussen displays both his classic viturosity and his modernity, playing an electronically enhanced violin on "Silly Shuffle". All the tunes have a special meaning for Asmussen, especially "Sermon For Stuff, an original composition written in hommage to his favorite violinist, Stuff Smith. Svend Asmussen is a true virtuoso on the violin, with a distinctive style, beautiful sound, and an unflagging commitment to good music all of which is abundantly clear when listening to this CD. Having played together regularly since 1996, there is an incredible intuitive rapport between these four musicians.
