This 71-minute CD is compiled from seven Storyville CD's, recorded live and in the studio in Copenhagen and Stockholm between 1975 and 1980. Of the 13 tunes, three feature Lee Konitz on alto sax, three are duo numbers with bassist Red Mitchell, and three are accompanied by the Kenny Drew trio. Warne Marsh's main influences were pianist Lennie Tristano and saxophonists Charlie Parker and Lester Young. The music on this CD lacks ego – "I let the music play me", said Marsh, and he follows an exact musical line of thought while playing. Regarding Warne Marsh, British jazz journalist Alun Morgan said: "Music such as this is the very essence of jazz."
