Touchdown

In the spring of 1995, Danish pianist, Michael Heise took a study tour to New York. There he hooked up with world renowned bassist Larry Grenadier and the talented young drummer All M. Jackson and formed the Michael Heise Trio. Having built up their repertoire during countless jam sessions, both live and in the studio, they decided the time was right to commit their music to CD. Co-produced by the american jazz legend, Richie Beirach, the session took place in New York in February 1996. A mixture of original compositions and standards, the tracks were whittled down to the selection presented here on Storyville. This CD represents yet another example of the new wave of young Danish jazz musicians open to international perspectives and unafraid to experiment. Something’s definitely swinging in the state of Denmark, and it’s high time the rest of the world had a chance to hear for themselves what’s happening!
