Part of the continuing excitement of jazz is the seemingly endless supply of young musicians who take up the art, each of them bringing something fresh to our music. The musicians heard here are all post-Charlie Parker men, even post- John Coltrane in some cases. John Stubblefield has worked with who is who in Jazz, with Mary Lou Williams, Charlie Mingus, Freddie Hubbard, Gill Evans, Randy Weston and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Band. John Stubblefield has composed 4 tracks, Cecil Bridgewater 1 track and Onaje Allen Gumbs 1 track.
John Stubblefield’s music reflects the “modal” discoveries of the late fifties. Song for One was created by a man who knew Milestones.
