Peter Vuust writes beautiful melodies – well-balanced, plain and with an unmistakably Nordic timbre. That alone is an achievement. But besides this the careful listener is rewarded with the revelation of new layers and structures, surprisingly vigorous. Listen to “November Black”: Beneath the friendly surface is hidden a disturbing and unsettling abyss. It goes without saying that Peter Vuust is also a prominent bass player, who on this recording is surrounded by some of the best jazz musicians in Scandinavia. Enjoy the creativity of the powerful Alex Riel, the magic sound paintings of Paola Vinacia and the perfectly outlined solos of Christian Vuust, the bandleader’s cousin. And then of course there is Peter’s spiritual brother, Lars Jansson, whose moving and poetic playing adds a final touch to the compositions.
Peter Vuust (acoustic bass); Christian Vuust (tenor- & soprano saxophone); Lars Jansson (piano); Alex Riel (drums) / Paola Vinaccia (percussion)
